Clinton Docks

Each of the smaller towns and villages in the area welcome you and offer their own unique spirit and pride which makes up this great area. Events such as Clinton Farmer’s Markets, Thomson Watermelon Festival, City Festivals with parades, Civil War Reenactments, Tug of Wars, Softball, Fulton Dutch Days with its authentic Windmill, Albany Miss Flame Festival, Hometown Holiday walks, Holiday lighting display and so much more. All these events provide a sense of camaraderie, celebration, and of course a lot of fun. These communities also share the banks of the Mississippi River which provides the area with its own distinct beauty and recreation such as fishing, hunting, and water sports, hiking, biking, eagle and bird watching, camping, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and the beauty of the fall leaves reflecting in the water.

You can certainly keep fit in the Clinton area with a full service YWCA with pools, 2 fitness centers, fitness classes such as Spin, Cardio Fusion, Yoga, Silver Sneakers, Belly Dancing, and Weight rooms. Child care is provided as well as many fun classes for preschool, and an amazing number of youth activities and sports. Don’t miss the full service park and recreation department with 9 miles of wonderful bike and walking trails with river views, pristine tree-filled areas and wide open spaces for you to enjoy. The Discovery Trail in Clinton is dedicated to three astronauts from Clinton County: Cmdr. Dale A. Gardner, Dr. George D. Nelson, and Col. David C. Hilmers. Trail users will enjoy beautiful views of the Mississippi River.

BATTER UP…enjoy the Clinton LumberKings, a class A minor league baseball team based in Clinton. The LumberKings are affiliated with the Seattle Mariners. Ashford University Field, with a home town atmosphere, is filled with enthusiastic fans every summer.

Clinton Community College is part of the Eastern Iowa Community College District and offers both college transfer and career technology programs. The college also works closely with area employers to provide personalized training and re-training programs. More than 1,500 students enroll in the college’s classes each fall at its main campus as well as its Manufacturing Technology Center in Clinton’s industrial area and its satellite center in Maquoketa.

The mission of the Clinton Community School District is to educate all students to their highest level of achievement through an engaging curriculum in a caring community. The Clinton Community School District is the 15th largest school district in Iowa with 4,090 students enrolled in grades kindergarten through 12. The district has 6 buildings, which include: 4 elementary schools, one new state of the art middle school, one high school and eight pre-k affiliate sites. 58% of 11th and 12th grade students are involved in post secondary and advanced placement programs. The organization structure provides for six year (PK-5) elementary schools, three year (6-8) middle schools and four year (9-12) high schools. Surrounding communities have consolidated to give their communities the very best education.

For the aspiring gardener or anyone who loves native trees, shrubs, ground cover, plus perennial and annual flowers, you will love the Bickelhaupt Arboretum. The Arboretum consists of 14 acres of the most lovely areas you can imagine. Not only can you enjoy the area but you can participate in numerous events such as gardening classes, tours, wreath making classes and master gardener information to name just a few.  The Heritage Canyon in Fulton provides an amazing historical and entertaining walk through a fully featured town from the 1800’s.

Clinton and the surrounding communities offer an astounding number and wide variety of churches and houses of spiritual and religious exercise.

If golfing is your bag you will enjoy the many beautiful courses offered in the surrounding area. Courses are available in Clinton, Fulton, Morrison, Thomson, and Dewitt. Don’t forget, you’re just a short distance from the Quad Cities where there are endless golfing opportunities. The famous John Deere Classic, which is on the PGA Tour at TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, IL is always a crowd drawer. No matter if you play golf for the fun of it or you are a very serious golfer, the course is here for you.

The Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Clinton invites you to visit their multi-faceted facility. Gaming, dining (formal, buffet and casual sports bar), entertainment with top name entertainers, golf packages and a full service conference facility.

The Arts abound with numerous organizations such as The Symphony Orchestra, performing classical concerts and overtures for the season. The Best Cellar Theatre, a small troupe of performers and artists who write and perform their own comedy and musical theatre. The Showboat Theatre located in a restored river paddle wheeler on the beautiful riverfront. The professional summer repertory theatre from June-August performs great musicals and hilarious comedies. There is also a children’s theatre on Saturdays through the summer. All this plus the Gateway Contemporary Ballet bringing classical and modern dance to our area.
